With Deepest Sympathy

Dr. Candace Nayman, a valued member of PARO’s Board of Directors, died this morning. Candace was a third year paediatrics resident at McMaster University. She was elected to PARO’s General Council in her first year of training and to the PARO Board the following year, winning re-election for a second term in June.

Candace was participating in the Toronto Triathlon on Saturday July 23rd when she suffered a cardiac arrest in the swim portion of the event.

Candace believed strongly in PARO’s work and wanted to make the lives of her colleagues better, which she did through her active participation on multiple provincial and local McMaster committees. She was a fierce advocate for resident wellness and played an important role re-initiating the Non-Urgent Paging Pilot Program. She was actively involved in many Transition into Residency projects and led several Teaching to Teach Workshops. She was an enthusiastic participant in the PARO Leadership Program.

Candace was a hard worker who was loyal, always having the best interest of residents at heart. She was a humble, intelligent, compassionate person who loved to make people smile and loved having a ‘corny Dad joke’ up her sleeve to brighten someone’s day.

Our hearts go out to all who knew and worked with her and to the many lives she impacted as a friend, colleague and doctor.

Our deepest sympathy is extended to Candace’s parents, her twin sister and brother, her boyfriend and her extended family and friends.

Her loss will be painfully felt by all of us at PARO who had the pleasure of knowing and working with her.
